Near-death and Coma
Communication training
(Part 1) is available on request in your area
The
one day seminar is of interest to staff, care givers,
volunteers, family members and all those interested in caring
for the dying and can be adapted to your specific needs.
Objectives
-
To
bring increased awareness to the various stages of illness and
dying
-
To
explore personal beliefs and attitudes that we bring to death
and dying
-
To
teach methods of supporting those who are dying including verbal
and non-verbal communication
-
To
develop confidence in connecting with the dying and assisting
them with their inner processes.
Outcomes
At the conclusion of the workshop participants can expect to have:
-
developed
their understanding of and ability to support patients in the
various stages of death and dying
-
explored
their background belief systems and attitudes that are brought
to their encounters with patients who are dying
-
gained
some skills for communicating with patients who may be in non-verbal
states of consciousness such as in near-death and coma states
-
on-going
support via email for ongoing reflection and information. There
is also follow-up training provided as needed
Feedback
from a hospice volunteer:
She wrote: “I
want to tell you how much I enjoyed, appreciated and benefited
from the seminar you gave. I haven’t been able to stop
thinking about it. For me there were so many new perspectives
to embrace, so much that was stimulating and exciting and best
of all deeply satisfying because it gave voice to something I
knew on some level but had not yet been able to articulate. Such
a gift you gave us, thank you.”
